6 free ways to automatically become healthier over 40
This week in pictures first: North Stradbroke Island today ❤️. An amazing fennel and cabbage salad I made this week, will post the recipe this week. Back to beach afternoons with the kids in the sun. My perfume of choice this week, InTune oil blend next to a working-morning matcha at Vanilla food, Noosa. ✨
I'm on North Stradbroke Island for the weekend, and have lucked-in with the weather so far. It's been surf, eat, work, surf, work so far.
In my ears: I've been listening to the new Hormozi and Chris Williamson podcast and LOVING IT. For any of you entrepreneurial types or personal development junkies, you'll want to get this into your ears. Some fave' quotes I've heard so far:
"There’s a big time delay between when we start behaving in a way that a winner behaves, and when we start winning."
"The leading indicator of a successful person is the ability to act when nothing is happening."
"It happens slower and than you expect then faster than you can imagine."
"In the short term, your success depends on your intensity. In the longterm it depends on your consistency."
“Many people want to be exceptional, but they are afraid to be the exception.”

WELLNESS FIX
It wouldn’t be hard to spend a mint on ‘getting healthier over 40’ if we tried. Some fancy supplements (I love some too!), a gym membership, medicinal mushrooms, a peloton bike or a personal trainer or a treadmill or organic gluten-free everything. And of course, all of these things can be really beneficial in their way.
However there's no 'need' to spend a lot of money to get started in becoming healthier as we age. There's lots we can do for our health and wellness that will see us feel and look better for longer that doesn’t really cost a thang, (or costs little to bring into our lives). Here’s four of them.
1️⃣ Walk more. Gym memberships have risen and so has the obesity rate and rate of ill-health. 🤔. 45 mins of slogging it out doesn’t counteract 23hrs of sedentary life, and an over-consumption of energy, nor necessarily support stress hormone reduction and relaxation. Walking whenever you can is a great way to improve mood, digestion, metabolism, and over-all health. Start strolling everywhere. You were made made for walking.
2️⃣ Prioritise sleep. The most underrated health hack on earth. Better sleep supports every single body system to perform better, including our hormonal system that lets us know we can get out of flight or freeze mode, our emotional and mental health, our energy levels (for walking 😉) and the ability to make better decisions for our health in the following day (ever scoffed a heap of junk food because you were so tired you went ‘fuck it’? Yep).
3️⃣ Increase protein at each meal and decrease carbs. Higher protein at each meal supports satiation so we eat less, and aids lean-muscle mass creation that supports better fat-loss. Muscle mass supports a healthier skeletal system as we age, means less breaks and tears, and increases lifespan. Greater lean muscle mass also gives our body a more attractive shape. 😉 Just sayin'.
4️⃣ Strengthen Relationships. Social connections are key to emotional health. Spend time nurturing relationships with friends, family, or even joining a community group. Meaningful social interactions boost mental well-being and help combat feelings of loneliness or isolation.
5️⃣ Get Outside and Soak Up the Sun. Spending time outdoors helps boost your vitamin D levels, which supports bone health and immune function. Natural sunlight can also improve mood and help regulate your circadian rhythm. Even a 10-15 minute walk in the sun can make a big difference.
6️⃣ Declutter and Organise. Simplifying your living space can reduce stress and create a more peaceful environment. Organising and decluttering your surroundings can lead to mental clarity and a greater sense of control over your life. I'm experiencing this in my life right now and I can't express how freeing it is. I don't even know where all the 'stuff' came from, but I've filled a skip and had it taken from our house and I feel so much lighter. Funnily enough it's helping me be more creative and also sleep better. 😉
