Perfect rice using the absorption method

We cook rice via absorption method because it

We add broth paste and some turmeric powder for additional nourishment. You can also use homemade broth and simply sub in the amount of liquid to the total required.

For a family meal (and some left over) we use 2 cups of rice to begin.

To reduce phytates which can exacerbate the digestive system, if we can, we soak the rice for some hours, or overnight, and then rinse and start there. This is entirely optional of course.

  • For every 1 cup of rice, use 1.5 cups water or broth.

  • Add 1 tsp broth paste if using

  • Add 1/4 tsp turmeric (this will make the rice yellow).

  • Add pinch of black pepper (to activate the turmeric. You can omit this if you aren't using turmeric.

  • Place lid on and turn down as low as possible. Cook for exactly 12 mins do not remove lid until that time.

  • Turn off heat, remove lid, fluff with fork and lid back on for a couple of mins).
