I've Bought My Oils, Now What? The 'Must-Have' Essential Oil Resources + Companion Products
My favourite thing to do is introduce people to essential oils.
Mother Nature creates these pure extracts from plants - the bark, resin, leaves, flowers - as a form of immune system for the plant itself and we can then benefit from using them on or around our own body to protect, support, and enhance ourselves physically, emotionally, spiritually and environmentally.
One of the questions I get asked the most is:
‘I have my oils, now what?’.
OR this one:
'I want to purchase oils but I am not sure what to do after I get them!?'
Most companies have their own websites where you can search by specific oil or blend for some additional info on that oil, but it's all of the additional extra Q's you may have that I am here to help you with. Modern Essentials App: I can’t speak highly enough of this app. Anybody that invests in purchasing pure therapeutic grade essential oils needs to have this app in their pocket. It’s $11, which isn’t cheap by ‘App’ standards, however you will use it every day and it will never cost you another cent.
If you’re unsure of who to support an ailment, body system or to benefit your body or emotion, you need only to search within the app by ailment, body system, or emotion and see the oils that will be beneficial for that.
For instance: When a friend of ours had a child turned one, I searched for ‘crying baby’ and found that gentle oils such as yang ylang, geranium, lavender and frankincense were wonderful supports, and was able to make to gentle and well diluted blend for that child to roll under his feet (Modern Essentials App also helps in dilution quantities and application methods which is so good for the risk adverse!)
When one of my own daughters got sick in the tummy, I was able to search the app and make a blend up based on the results from that and their ages. You can see the blog post of exactly how I did this here.
I’ve even used it to formulate a blend for a woman who was struggling to get her mojo back with her husband after they had their third child and I heard back from here that the oils recommended and that I blended from the app were highly successful! ;)
Modern Essentials Book: You can also purchase the Modern Essentials Book, which is a tomb of information and a wonderful resource to keep in the home and grow your knowledge. It is a little heavy to pop in your handbag and is around $35 + p&h.
Emotions and Essential Oils Book
I rely heavily on the Modern Essentials App for quick references, though it is this amazing book I look to when I want to support my emotions or look for ideas to support those around me in a similar way.

Each oil lists positive emotions and negative emotions attached to each oil. I personally find it interesting to inhale the aroma of an oil and wonder how I feel about that oil and then look to the ‘emotion’ it supports, read the text, and see how I can relate this to my current life circumstance.
I know many people who use this book to create aromatic anchors for themselves. This can be done by choosing a single oil based on its emotional support value, such as Wild Orange Oil for abundance, or creating a specific blend, such as Lavender - the oil of communication - & Frankincense - the oil of truth and light - for using before they have important family
Blending and DYI:If you are anything like me, you’re going to want to start blending and diluting your oils into rollers, bottles and spritzers, or even make your own skincare or personal care products.

Organic Magnesium Salts (or even Epsom Salts) - incredible for supporting detoxification of the skin and assisting the lymphatic system.
Dr. Bronners Liquid Castille Soap (unscented baby). This is around $20 for a 1L bottle, which will last you for months. I use this in my hand and body wash, cleanser, dishwashing liquid and so much more.
Organic Carrier oils. I use rosehip oil as a carrier for my face serums. I use Jojoba or almond oil for my body oils and massage oils. Most health food shops will have a variety you can choose from.
